Weird, nearly fell over when we saw this practise recently. There is a place in La Morra near the tourist info area (you'll probably be aware ot it) that has the top wines from Gaia, Giacosa and so on in a glassed off area with spotlights on them - heat and light ! We'd have bought some but for the conditions.

We ate at a local Osteria around the corner from it and the first two Barolos were oxidised through cork failure - had a look at the cellar downstairs when choosing the third wine, and sure enough most wines still in the original boxes, standing up. The igorance of proper cellaring staggers me.

Thanks Tom, look forward to reading your blog post on Montalcino when you return. Showing the 06's to a few customers again today, the best bit is getting the leftovers - if I only had enough time to make pici con ragu for dinner!

Nice writeup on Poggio di Sotto. I am visiting there later this week and will meet with Claudio Tipa, the new owner and will taste the new 2007 vintage.

What a great photo, Matt. They've hardly changed!
One can see that your fortunate step into the T&T business back then has only been the most positive experience. They snapped up young, super-enthusiastic blood to join them in their quest. I think you are doing a damn fine job, and you certainly add a bucketload of value to our tasting group, especially for budding Italophiles like myself.
Here's to the next successful 18 years.
Salute!

You know I love Barolo so much I could marry Pietro myself - it was the 58' Bussia that did it!

Is Chiara not available? Surely your wife wouldn't mind if you married a Barolo winemaker purely for her mutual benefit (Italian citizenship and a neverending supply of Cannubi). Then I could finally call you that one three-letter word I know you yearn to hear. Starts with a 'W', rhymes with 'bog' ;-)
